AboutLike so many successful horsewomen, Joanne grew up with a passion for horses and riding and took advantage of any opportunity to learn good horsemanship skills, regardless of the disclipline. She has ridden and competed on the Quarter Horse circuit, worked at various breeding barns and riding stables, owned and helped her husband Gary with several Standardbred race horses, bred and shown line classes, and trained and shown many hunter and dressage horses. While continuing to develop her riding skills with occasional lessons and clinics, Joanne was introduced to the inception of the newly formed national certification program and set her sights on achieving that goal. In 1981 Joanne was one of the first certified coaches with Equine Canada (formerly CEF) and has continued to train, improve and build her knowledge of riding and teaching.
Wynbrook Farm was started in 1985 by Joanne and her husband Gary, who was an RCMP Staff Instructor for many years with the Musical Ride. Together, they brought a lifetime of horsemanship knowledge and experience as they began to build a professional riding school in Vars, a short drive east of Ottawa. Initially, this was to be a recreational riding school where riders could expect a structured and professional program based on strong basics. But over the years more and more students wanted to take their horses to competitions and Wynbrook Farm soon became a strong contender on the local Primary and Trillium hunter show circuits.
Gary and Joanne's daughter, Taylor, has been involved in the riding school from a young age beginning with daycamp assistant and learning every aspect of the horse business through the years. In addition to enormous success in the hunter and jumper show rings, Taylor is also a successful coach and trainer with plans to continue the farm's tradition of top quality riding instruction in a professional and modern facility.
Wynbrook Farm currently has a large team of show riders who successfully compete at the Quebec and Ontario "A" shows, Trillium and Primary shows finishing up each year with our Trillium Championships in Toronto as well as the Royal Winter Fair for our national riders. Whether you ride for recreation or top competitive goals, Wynbrook Farm has an experienced and knowledgeable coach to help you get there.
