Wynbrook Farm offers many opportunities for competition experience. Every Christmas there is an "inhouse funshow" which encourages all students to participate with half the classes being serious equitation classes and jumping and the remainder being games and fun activities. The emphasis is on fun and personal enjoyment rather than placing, but it is a great introduction to the competition experience. For the more advanced riders, we travel to local OESS hunter and dressage shows, Eastern Ontario Trillium hunter shows and occasionally to Quebec and Ontario "A" circuit hunter shows. As you can see, we are very busy complimenting our competitive reputation at all levels of shows.
Because our students are taught proper basics right from the beginning, with correct technique and equitation styles, the show experience is totally enjoyable and confidence building. Wynbrook students are developed and supported with only positive learning experiences both at home and at the show. Wynbrook Farm has several horses and ponies with many "show miles" in experience to safely look after beginner and intermediate riders. Beyond those levels, students are encouraged to buy their own horse/pony to accommodate the higher physical demands.
Joanne is the competitive coach for the Trillium and "A" circuit hunter shows as well as local entry level dressage shows. Wynbrook Farm is fortunate to have Taylor coaching students at primary and entry level shows where she brings her wealth of knowledge and competitive experience to help the next generation of Wynbrook riders.
Joanne Brooks: In addition to coaching at the hunter shows, Joanne takes a little time to compete at the local dressage shows with her Irish Sporthorse "Shenanigans" and finished up 2007 with high score distinction at 4 of the 5 shows! Following a very successful season at the Training Level, she and "Sheena" will be competing at First Level in 2008 - living proof that you really can "teach an old dog new tricks"!
Taylor Brooks: During 2003 and 2004, Taylor and her medium pony "Beaverwoods Echo" jumped their way to so many championships and titles, including two back-to-back Champion Medium Pony titles at the Ontario Trillium Championships and finished in second place on the Quebec "A" circuit which qualified Taylor and Echo for the 2004 Royal Winter Fair where they finished up with two 2nds - the flat phase and the medium pony stake class.
2005 was an exciting year for Taylor and her Dutch Warmblood gelding "R'Olympic". With only 3 weeks to get to know "Rolly" they were off to their first year in the 3 foot Children's hunters. That was a huge step up from the medium pony division of the preceding year, but Taylor made it look easy and in spite of a minor setback (broken wrist which sidelined her for 6 weeks) she and Rolly finished up Eastern Zone Champions in the Children's Hunter Division as well as Champion B Equitation Rider (both over fences and on the flat) as well as being presented with the High Point Child Rider trophy for our Trillium zone.
Taylor and "R'Olympic" were successful at the first Quebec "A" show of 2006 winning the Children's Hunter Championship at Pepiniere Horse Show where Rolly was sold and the search was on for a new partner for Taylor. With the help of Angela Covert-Lawrence of Eastwood Equine, "Monaco" was purchased to help Taylor prepare for the 3'6" Junior division. 2006 was again a banner year for Taylor in both the Trillium Eastern Zone (champions in the Modified Juniors and reserve champion Children's Hunters) as well as many wins at the Quebec "A's".
2007 continued the rise of Taylor and "Monty" as they won numerous classes and championships at the Quebec "A" shows, finishing 2nd in the standings in the Junior Hunters and qualifying in both Juniors and the Jump Canada Medal finals for the Royal Winter Fair. We wish them continued success in their future endeavors as Taylor plans to sell "Monty" and purchase her first jumper.
Wynbrook Students: Wynbrook students have always excelled at competition and to mention just a few, Nathalie Benoit and her Children's hunter "Precious Metal" have improved so much during 2006 and 2007 and congratulations go to Nat with her qualifying for the Royal this year! Chanelle Laroche and her Large Pony "Happy Camper" were very successful with her first year competing at the Primary Hunter shows and we wish them well as they prepare for their first year showing Trillium in 2008. Marisia Campbell and her dressage mount "Spiritsong" were enjoying a season of training but plan to return to the dressage ring in 2008 where Marisia will make her First Level debut. Natalie Murphy is continueing to work with "Brown Eyed Girl" as she plans to show Trillium shows next year as well, and Andrea Howland is leasing our very own "Flashdance" with plans to move up in the levels at Primary next year. If anyone was watching the Pre-novice and Novice divisions at the primary shows this year they would have noticed a strong Wynbrook Show Team with Cori Rabjohn, Jacqueline Bedard, Alexandra Moore, Andrea Howland, Natalie Murphy and Elena Clark with Danielle Tremblay also showing in the Training and Child/Adult classes. Not to be forgotten, Wynbrook Show Team also stormed the OESS shows in the east end with numerous wins by Jenna Andrews, Clare Foy, Kathleen Atkins, Julia Tanner, Emily Peebles, Elsa Mirzaei and Elena Clark. Congratulations to each and every one of you for making Wynbrook Show Team such a success! |
